lmcsh9527/dsh-search-free
dsh-search-free is a free multi-layer web search + fetch provider for DeepSeek Harness. It registers a freesearch search provider with automatic layer fallback — Exa semantic search first (quality first, uses your Exa API key), Tavily general web search second (free tier ~1,000 requests/month), and a zero-key Bing RSS last resort — plus a native fetch provider (plain fetch, redirects followed, HTML classified to text) and a web_fetch model tool registered only when not already present. No API keys are embedded: empty keys simply skip their layer. It exists because the official Exa search package cannot load (missing @deepseek-ai/dsh-environment) and official DeepSeek search requires a funded account.
Install
npm i dsh-search-freenpm dsh-search-free 0.1.1 verified 2026-09-04 (repository field → github.com/lmcsh9527/dsh-search-free; README EN primary w/ zh edition). Install: npm i dsh-search-free (or npm i github:lmcsh9527/dsh-search-free), then mount it in the profile's cordis.patch.yml: set searchProvider: freesearch on the web row and insert a web-search-free row with optional exaApiKey / tavilyApiKey. Do NOT run npm/pnpm install inside a live profile directory (shadow node_modules breaks the tool pipeline); use a symlink for local checkouts.
Compatibility
DeepSeek Harness web profile search seam (ctx.web WebSearchProvider); Node 18+ fetch; config is a plain object since 0.1.1 (no schemastery dependency).

FAQ
- Which search layers does it use?
- Exa (semantic) → Tavily (general) → Bing RSS (zero-key fallback). An empty API key skips its layer, so you can run on Bing RSS alone.
- Why does this plugin exist?
- The official @deepseek-ai/dsh-web-search-exa rc imports @deepseek-ai/dsh-environment which does not exist on npm, so it cannot load; official DeepSeek search also requires a funded account.
- What install pitfalls are documented?
- Never run npm/pnpm install inside a live profile directory — pnpm creates a shadow node_modules that kills the tool pipeline. Install with npm i dsh-search-free and mount via a cordis.patch.yml row, or symlink a local checkout.
