Playwright browser automation for DeepSeek Harness|Playwright browser automation plug-in for DeepSeek Harness

dsh-playwright-browser gives a DSH agent a persistent, semantic, multi-tab browser controller powered by Playwright: ten native browser_* tools registered in the DSH tool registry (open, navigate, snapshot, click, fill, back/forward/reload, keyboard input, waits, PNG screenshots), a reusable browser context with stable tab identifiers, fresh bounded accessibility or visible-text snapshots after interactions, and semantic locators such as role=button|Save, label=Email, and text=Settings. It features lazy browser startup with fallback from Playwright Chromium to installed Chrome or Edge, abort-aware page operations, Cordis-owned lifecycle cleanup, explicit tab management with navigation history, and no arbitrary page JavaScript evaluation. Behaviorally inspired by the Codex Browser skill but contains no Codex runtime code and no OpenAI browser bindings.

Install

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-playwright-browser

Install from npm with dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-playwright-browser (from a checkout: npm install, npm pack, then dsh plugin --profile web add ./dsh-playwright-browser-0.1.3.tgz; headless profile uses dsh plugin --profile headless add). Requirements: Node.js ^22.19.0 or >=24.0.0, a DSH profile, and one supported browser — Playwright Chromium (npx playwright install chromium), Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge, or an explicit executablePath. Git installations run the package prepare script; pnpm 10+ may require allowing that build in pnpm-workspace.yaml. Verify the composed profile with dsh --profile web --dump-config.

Compatibility

DeepSeek Harness 0.1.0-rc.6 package line (developer preview; may need compatibility updates as DSH evolves). Node.js ^22.19.0 or >=24.0.0. Browsers: Playwright Chromium, Chrome, Edge, or explicit executablePath; config options include browser (chromium/firefox/webkit), headless, channel, executablePath, userDataDir, viewport, actionTimeoutMs 15000, navigationTimeoutMs 30000, maxSnapshotChars 40000, screenshotDir.

FAQ

Does it require a specific browser?
No — it uses Playwright Chromium (npx playwright install chromium), Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge, or an explicit executablePath; it falls back from Chromium to installed Chrome/Edge automatically.
Can it run headless?
Yes — headless: true is the default; a headless profile installs with dsh plugin --profile headless add ./dsh-playwright-browser-0.1.3.tgz.
Does it evaluate arbitrary JavaScript on pages?
No — the plugin deliberately avoids arbitrary page JavaScript evaluation; it works from accessibility/visible-text snapshots and semantic locators.
