Desktop shell for DeepSeek Harness Web GUI — auto-installs dsh, native macOS tray, packaged for macOS & Window

A desktop shell (Electron) for the DeepSeek Harness Web GUI (dsh web, served at 127.0.0.1:3080 by default). Grab-and-go: download the packaged app and launch it — if dsh is not present it auto-installs into the project's vendor/dsh directory, so no global install or PATH work is needed, and no system Node.js is required because Electron supplies the runtime.

Install

cd dsh-desktop && npm install && npm start

README getting started (from a source checkout: npm install installs Electron and downloads its binary, npm start locates or installs dsh, ensures the server is running and opens the app). The README also ships packaged builds you can download and launch directly, and documents two environment quirks: a root-owned ~/.npm cache breaks install with EPERM (workaround npm install --cache /path/to/writable/npm-cache), and a non-writable Electron binary cache can be redirected via the electron_config_cache variable used by install.js.

Compatibility

macOS and Windows; Electron 43. No system Node.js required for the packaged build — it uses Electron's built-in runtime and installs dsh into vendor/dsh via npm install --prefix vendor/dsh @deepseek-ai/dsh (no global install, no PATH dependence). Pin a specific binary with DSH_BIN=/path/to/dsh npm start; runtime logs land in logs/dsh-web.{stdout,stderr}.log.

README documents the environment quirks seen on some machines (root-owned npm cache causing EPERM, non-writable Electron cache) with concrete workarounds, and notes none of them matter for a normal npm start.

FAQ

How do I run dsh-desktop?
From a checkout run cd dsh-desktop && npm install && npm start; the README also ships packaged builds you can download and launch without a system Node.js install.
Do I need to install dsh myself?
No — on startup it looks for dsh and, if missing, installs it locally into vendor/dsh (npm install --prefix vendor/dsh @deepseek-ai/dsh), so nothing global is required. You can pin one with DSH_BIN.
npm install fails with EPERM in my ~/.npm cache — what now?
The README records this quirk: a root-owned ~/.npm cache breaks the install. Work around it with npm install --cache /path/to/writable/npm-cache.
