DSH plug-in: Send files to Markdown first - let large models directly read PDF/Word/Excel/PPT/HTML/CSV/EPUB, based on Microsoft MarkItDown
dsh-tool-markitdown converts files to LLM-friendly Markdown before the model reads them, using Microsoft MarkItDown locally so files never leave the machine. It supports PDF, Word, Excel, PPT, HTML, CSV, EPUB, ODT/ODS/ODP, RTF, JSON/XML, ipynb and image OCR. You can convert on demand from the composer's file button (inserting Markdown into your draft), convert-on-send by dragging a workspace file into the composer, or let the model call the markitdown tool on a path, an http(s) URL or an attachmentId. Long documents are truncated with an attachmentId for full-text retrieval (/markitdown/raw/<id>); live settings under Settings -> Plugin config -> markitdown tune the Python command, input byte bound, output char bound, timeout and convert-on-send toggle.
Install
dsh plugin --profile web add github:jiavenzhong/dsh-tool-markitdownThe README's flow is: install the MarkItDown engine (pip install "markitdown[all]"), get the code (git clone or a Release ZIP), then dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-tool-markitdown, and install the plugin's own dependency (schemastery) next to it. The bare npm name dsh-tool-markitdown is not on the public registry as of 2026-10-01, so this page uses the GitHub form. Conversion runs locally through Microsoft MarkItDown; files never leave the machine.
Compatibility
dsh web (DeepSeek Harness Web GUI) on Windows / macOS / Linux. The host half is Node, the browser half is Web, plain JavaScript with no build step. Requires the MarkItDown engine installed locally (Python).
